Engineering colleges lack teachers: Experts

July 29: In a shocking revelation the expert committee constituted by the Kerala High Court submitted before the court that even science degree holders are teaching the engineering students in the state. The committee headed by Dr G Rajendran and Dr N Vijayakumar submitted before a bench comprising Justices C.N. Ramachandran Nair and P.S.
Gopinathan that the colleges under the Calicut University were worse as they shared faculties members between different institutions.
According to the committee at the colleges affiliated to the University of Kerala there was shortage of in middle level that is assistant professors. There would be senior faculties but others were only having an experience of 2-3 years. The faculties of assistant professors was scarce. Colleges under CUSAT teachers only possess a B.Tech, the committee which examined the facilities of 25 colleges as the first phase of the study The faculty members in colleges under the MG Uni
versity were teaching B.Tech classes without engineering degrees. It was found that faculties from the government-aided colleges serve in self-financing colleges without any contract or consent or deputation from the government. Besides, colleges had failed to post details about their institutions as prescribed by the AICTE.
It was found that the faculty members who possessed science degree were engaged at engineering colleges. There were only three colleges under the Kannur University.
The inspection of these colleges had been postponed.
